The LACMA Education Department provides instructional resources to K–12 teachers to browse or purchase.
Online Curriculum
LACMA has developed curriculum materials in conjunction with its new program, Art Programs with the Community: LACMA On-Site. The creation of the curriculum reflects the museum's desire to provide teachers with resources to enhance their visual arts instruction. Here you'll find grade-appropriate materials to help you further your students' arts education. All the curriculum materials are based on works of art in LACMA's permanent collection and were developed in alignment with California State Content Standards. Access the Online Curriculum.
Curriculum Materials for Purchase
Evenings for Educators curriculum materials are available for $10 per set ($7 if purchasing five or more sets). Slide sets highlighting selected areas of LACMA's permanent collections are available for $18 each.
For descriptions and an order form select: LACMA Curriculum Materials for Teachers or LACMA Permanent Collection Slide Sets (PDF: 172Kb/7 pages).
Photography Study Room: Images for Educators
This teacher-led program provides students with an opportunity to explore LACMA's photography collection in an intimate environment. Using a selection of photographs from the permanent collection, K-12 teachers and college-level instructors can facilitate discussions with students about one of four themes, including the history of photography, portraiture, western landscapes, and "then and now." Image descriptions, discussion questions, and pre- and post-visit materials accompany each selection of photographs. Program themes are developed to meet California state content standards.
Teachers and instructors may make reservations to use the Photography Study Room for one hour. Sessions are limited to 15 students per hour. Multiple sessions may be reserved to accommodate larger groups. The Photography Study Room is open on Thursdays from noon to 5 pm beginning in September 2008. Email for more information or to participate.
Resources for Loan
Due to current construction projects, LACMA's Education Department offices will be temporarily moved off-site. Resources for loan are not available at this time.
All Resources for Educators materials are provided for educational use only and are copyright protected.
