Associate Vice President of Campaign and Major Gifts
Development Department (RFT)
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Associate Vice President of Campaign and Major Gifts will serve as Campaign Manager for LACMA's Transformation Capital Campaign as well as manage the Directors of Major Donor Groups and Major Donor Special Events to develop strategies and improve tactics for donor solicitations, stewardship and cultivation. Works directly with the Vice President of Development to guide the solicitation of gifts for the capital campaign as well as securing annual major gift support for the museum.
Primary Responsibilities
-
Monitors and organizes all aspects of the Capital and Endowment Campaign, including tracking prospects, preparing meeting agendas and minutes, tracking timelines and deadlines, and updating campaign reports, among other duties.

Develops strategies for prospect solicitations; creates proposals and works with solicitors to ensure effective cultivation and solicitation of six- and seven-figure gifts.

In weekly group and one-on-one meetings with Development professional staff responsible for major donor groups, including Director's Circle, President's Circle, Collectors Council, the Director of Council Activities, including the 11 volunteer councils, develops and/or approves strategies for donor cultivation and solicitation.

Maintains a portfolio of prospects: identifies, cultivates, solicits, and tracks gifts to the campaign as well as raising annual major donor support for the museum.

Develops and tracks the campaign budget and revenue projections. Manages required expenditures within approved budget.

Oversees implementation of donor recognition efforts for both campaign and annual support.

Full supervisory responsibility for employees within the job classifications of Major Gifts, Campaign, Director's and President's Circles, Major Donor Events, and Council Activities, as well as support staff.

Curator, Department Head, Chinese and Korean Art
Chinese and Korean Art Department (RFT)
The Chinese and Korean Art Department seeks a highly qualified museum professional to serve as the Curator of Chinese Art and Department Head. The candidate should be an experienced scholar of Chinese art who can work collegially and collaboratively with the Director and Deputy Director and other sections within the institution, especially Education, Conservation, Development, and other curatorial departments.
The Chinese and Korean Department currently houses over 1,800 works of art. The Chinese collection is comprehensive, consisting of 1,400 works, illustrating most artistic developments across a time span of nearly 5,000 years. Notable strengths are archaic bronzes, ceramics and lacquers.
The Chinese and Korean Art Curator/Department Head's primary duties will be to function as the lead institutional specialist for the Chinese Art collection; independently research, catalogue, and publish the permanent collection; be responsible for both LACMA-organized and touring exhibitions from other institutions; actively pursue acquisitions; provide educational lectures and docent training; assist in fundraising and grant writing for acquisitions, exhibitions, and a capital campaign; cultivate and maintain donor, trustee and community relations and professional affiliations; and collaborate with the East Asian Art Council, the department's support group.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in art history and a minimum of seven to ten years related experience, or an equivalent combination. Appropriate language skills and previous supervisory experience are also mandatory. In addition, the position requires advanced English-language communication and interpersonal skills; aptitude for connoisseurship; critical scholarly record and ambition; contribution to the intellectual life of the museum; thoughtful initiative and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; and the demonstrated capability to write for a general as well as a scholarly audience.

Assistant/Associate Curator of Chinese Art
Chinese and Korean Art Department (RFT)
The Chinese and Korean Art Department seeks a highly qualified professional with museum experience to serve as an assistant or associate curator of Chinese Art. This position offers an opportunity to work with the most comprehensive collection of Chinese art in the Western Hemisphere and in one of the most active departments in the field. The person selected must be a team player, able to work closely with the Curator of the department and other sections within the institution, especially Education, Docents, Conservation, Registrars, Development, and other curatorial departments. The assistant or associate curator’s primary duties will be to: function as the lead institutional specialist for the Chinese art collection; independently research, interpret (writing/composing labels, didactics, gallery guides, electronic media and museum website), catalogue, and publish the permanent collection; participate in acquisitions and exhibitions/installations; provide educational lectures, information, and docent training; instruct and supervise departmental interns and volunteers; provide public and scholarly art expertise, both written and oral; assist in fundraising and grant-writing for acquisitions, exhibitions, and a capital campaign; cultivate and maintain donor/trustee/community relations and professional affiliations; and collaborate with the East Asian Art Council, the department’s support group.
Qualifications
Ph.D. strongly preferred, but will consider ABD or MA in East Asian art history if accompanied by a minimum of three years of museum experience working with Chinese art. Major Gifts Officer, President's Circle
Development Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer will create and manage a $2.5 million-plus annual campaign for LACMA’s President’s Circle and work with the Development staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts for Transformation: The LACMA Campaign.
Duties include correspondence with major donors, solicitation of gift donations, the design and production of events for the President’s Circle, supervision of President’s Circle subcommittee made up of Trustees and community leaders, and the management and cultivation of prospective donor relationships.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of experience in working with donors, creating direct mail solicitations, catering to high level member needs, and budget creation and management. A combination of related education, training, and experience will be accepted.

Collections Management Technician
Conservation Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Director of Conservation, the Collections Management Technician is responsible for the routine care and maintenance of collection storage areas including handling, tracking and relocation of artwork.
Duties include: houses and re-houses artwork in storage; fabricates support systems and protective enclosures for artwork in storage; handles and tracks the relocation of individual objects or collections; performs routine tasks related to collection storage areas, including but not limited to environmental monitoring, integrated pest management, seismic mitigation, disaster planning; orders program equipment and supplies; performs special projects as assigned.

Exhibitions Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Exhibitions, the Program Coordinator assists in coordinating, planning, and preparing schedules for exhibitions and permanent collections installations and maintains day-to-day status of exhibitions and permanent collections installations.
Some duties include: coordinate meetings and other planning throughout all stages of assigned projects; prepare single composite schedule of deadlines for each exhibition and permanent collection installation for use by curator and contributing departments; assist with advance planning of overall exhibition and permanent collection installation schedule (current as well as five years in advance); assist in preparation of individual project budgets and in monitoring of shared costs; negotiate agreements for exhibitions and permanent collection installations as assigned; prepare amendments and independent contractor agreements; and monitor compliance with terms of agreement.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in art history or museum administration, and have at least four years of experience in an art museum. A combination of related education, training, and experience will be accepted. Experience with contemporary exhibitions, especially with living-artist exhibitions, is preferred. Intermediate level knowledge of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and database functions is required, as well as the ability to organize, prioritize, and multitask to meet established deadlines.

Director of Development Research
Development Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development Operations and Gift Planning, the Director of Development Research plans, organizes, directs, and conducts research in support of the solicitation of gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporate funding sources. Additionally, the position has full supervisory responsibility for the Development Research Analyst.
Some duties include: retrieval, analysis, and synthesis of biographical and financial information on current and potential major donors, and preparation of comprehensive profiles of research findings; proactive identification of new potential contributors for the capital campaign, programmatic support, special projects, and the museum’s ongoing operations through data mining, information gathering and analysis, and knowledge of the philanthropic community; oversight of prospect management and tracking, including the training of new development staff members; working with the database systems specialist to assess tracking-reporting needs; and management of online services, reference resources, and the museum’s donor and prospect files.
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and have at least three to five years of donor/prospect research experience in a nonprofit organization. Previous campaign experience is strongly preferred, as well as a good working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, donor database management software, and online and published research resources.
The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks to meet established deadlines; to exercise sound judgment and decision making; and to handle confidential and sensitive information effectively. Information Services Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Application and Systems Manager, the Web Applications Programmer is responsible for delivering high-quality technical solutions in support of web-based applications and servers for Internet and intranet sites. The Programmer participates in all aspects of software life cycle development, in new initiatives, and in maintenance of the exisiting e-commerce platform.
Some duties include: administering and maintaining Fatwire Content Server Product in development, staging, and production environments; providing support to Internet/intranet content users and I.S. staff for all technical support issues related to internal/external security issues as well as implications evolving from content authoring, content editing, and content publishing using products; supporting patch management and applications versioning; administering updates/upgrades to Internet/intranet databases; supporting client software issues on workstations; developing and implementing custom programs for Internet/intranet applications; providing policy and procedural technical documentation; and working with outside consultants.

Administrative Assistant
Finance Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Administrative Assistant provides essential administrative support for the Finance Office and Accounting Department staff members through general office duties, including: distributing departmental mail, coordinating meetings and travel arrangements, updating and maintaining files and office supplies, logging cash transmittals, and gathering pertinent information in preparation of the museum’s annual budget process. Additionally, this position serves as an executive assistant to the CFO.
Some duties/responsibilities include: preparing and submitting all Finance department requests for payment, letters of credit, travel and expense claims, and LACMA bond reimbursements; assisting with the preparation of various IRS forms; calculating, writing, and distributing stock valuations for incoming gift stocks and maintaining the gift stock log; completing and distributing the annual DOI report for LACMA gift annuities; coordinating the annual payment to the California Department of Insurance; compiling and preparing all information and documentation in preparation for annual audits; coordinating the distribution of the final audited financial statements to the full board and interested parties; and acting as a liaison between the CFO and investment managers and custodians.
The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field and at least five years of administrative/executive administrative experience, preferably within a financial department or institution. Museum Stores (RFT)
Reporting to the Assistant General Manager, the Sales Associate is primarily responsible for assisting customers with purchases of museum merchandise.
Some duties include: greeting customers and determining type of merchandise desired; operating register and receiving payment; wrapping merchandise; placing new merchandise on display; answering and directing telephone calls; maintaining a strong understanding of product knowledge for all merchandise; processing special orders; taking inventory of stock and maintaining stock levels on sales floor; pricing, arranging, and maintaining displays; and examining defective articles returned by customers to determine refunds/replacements.

General Maintenance Worker
Facility Services (RFT)
Reporting to the Supervisor of Facility Maintenance, the General Maintenance Worker performs a variety of minor general building maintenance and repair work.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:

Plumbing: Replacing or repairing defective valves, faucets, and washers and packing; stopping leaks; replacing pipe; snaking pipes, force cup, or chemicals; and assisting in steam fitting work, replacing sewage lines, etc.

Carpentry: Making and installing shelves, cabinets, and chair rails; hanging pictures and bulletin boards; sanding and refinishing furniture and woodwork; repairing doors, windows, or drawers; and repairing wood and laminated flooring.

Masonry: Patching asphalt, concrete, and plaster surfaces; and replacing bricks or ceramic tile as needed.

Electrical: Replacing broken or defective tubes and starters; minor rewiring; installing electrical outlets and light and fluorescent fixtures.
Other duties may include minor sheet metal work, minor roof repairs, maintaining tools and equipment for top performance, and special projects as assigned.
The qualified candidate will have at least two years of experience in general building maintenance and repair. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive plumbing experience. A Class C California driver’s license is required. The position also requires a flexible schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts.

Registrar's Office (RFT)
Reporting to the Associate Registrar of Database Management and Special Projects, the Database Specialist assists with all levels of support and maintenance for the collections management system.
Some duties include: coordinate, advise, consult, and determine standards of use for Mimsy XG system; further develop training procedures, documents and established training programs for Mimsy XG and Crystal Reports; maintain a working knowledge of MIMSY XG/Crystal Reports and inform staff of changes or updates in both programs; provide general museumwide support for MIMSY XG users; write and organize reports for all levels of museum staff and public; assist with the general administration of Mimsy XG through ongoing development and maintenance, consulting, and coordinating with IS department regarding testing and software upgrades; oversee and/or assist with data clean-up projects throughout the museum; maintain and update system administration manuals and contribute to the development of documentation, including updating Mimsy XG user manuals, and policies and procedures.
The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in art, art history, museum studies, or related field, and at least two years of experience in a museum with duties related to database support. A combination of education, experience, and/or training will be accepted.
The successful candidate will have the following skills, knowledge, and abilities: excellent and demonstrated knowledge of MIMSY XG (or any other relational CMS system) and Crystal Reports; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to assess priorities and work well under pressure; excellent time management, problem solving, and analytical skills; ability to work with curators, donors, vendors, other museum professionals, the public, and co-workers professionally and tactfully; strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects; ability to work independently without constant oversight; knowledge of SQL and ability to write SQL statements desired, but not required; two to four years of CMS management or advanced user experience; demonstrated experience with conducting training and writing instructional documentation.

Curatorial Administrator
Prints and Drawings Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Curator/Department Head of Prints and Drawings, the Curatorial Administrator provides administrative and general office support to the Prints and Drawings department.
Some essential duties include: assisting in all aspects of departmental exhibitions, acquisitions, and projects; managing the collection (including handling, storage, and tracking of works on paper); scheduling and supervising the prints and drawings viewing room for visitors; managing the departmental library; scheduling and maintaining the appointment calendar; answering incoming calls and continually interacting with diverse museum staff as well as facilitating requests from the museum’s patrons; and maintaining and updating collections files. In addition, making travel arrangements and handling and tracking curator’s paperwork flow and deadlines will be critical.
The qualified candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in art history or a related field and at least one year of administrative experience in a professional environment. Preference will be given to candidates with an interest in prints and drawings. A combination of equivalent education, training, and/or experience will be accepted. The successful candidate will be highly energetic with strong interpersonal skills. Candidate must be professional, detail-oriented, and a team player, and have the ability to handle multiple tasks; must be able to exercise sound judgment and exceptional decision-making skills; and must be capable of handling confidential and sensitive information. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, are essential, and knowledge of Photoshop useful.

Photography Department (RFT)
Reporting to the Curator/Department Head of Photography, the Associate Curator handles both curatorial and collections management-related responsibilities for the Photography department, involving preservation of the museum’s collections, research and dissemination of information about the collection, as well as the organization of exhibitions and acquisition of art for the collection.
Some essential duties include: interpretation, cataloguing, and study of permanent collection; generating, planning, and implementing special exhibitions; fundraising for acquisitions and exhibitions; donor/artist/trustee relations; responding to both public and scholarly inquiries; docent training; and collaboration with Conservation and Collections Management departments to ensure preservation of the collection.
The qualified candidate will have a master’s degree in art history or in museum studies with a photography specialization, and at least three to five years of experience involving museum curatorial work, collections management, and teaching at a college level. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Previous supervisory experience and a record of publications are strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have exceptional written and oral communication skills.
